It was a moving target. I remember those days. If you did well at your CSE's or O'Levels, then you would be able to take A'levels. And that would be a great achievement. But even better, if you did well at A'Level, then you could go on to University and get a degree! Only the top 10% achieved that. Once you got your degree, you were only really successful if it was an Honour's Degree, 2:1 or higher. If you stayed in Academia, then nothing would do unless you became a Professor. If you went into the real world and got a job, then you should get an MBA, or get left behind.
And so it went on and on... the carrot of "so called" achievement was dangled infront of us all. Trouble is, when you look back, there are people out there who didn't achieve any of the above and who have lead perfectly happy, healthy and successful lives. Sometimes, I think society gets all its priorities arse wise.
