I don't understand the attraction

if you need bits of hardware to facillitate a decent nosh
then i'd say: FAIL
if i was looking to have bits of surgical steel clattered off my little hero (no ive never heard that either i just made it up) i'd flash my dental hygenist - which would probably earn me a quick rap with a dental tool and a firm stare.

all body modification or adornment is attention seeking behaviour
theres no getting away from that. even subtle or hidden stuff - its there to provoke a reaction

.. its a culture where tattoos/body-adornment are required. Then, presumably, going without would be just "attention seeking behaviour", and just "to provoke a reaction".
