Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."
My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.
What stuff do you think is common?

Personally I dislike football for many reasons, but the main sticking point for me (even if it did show any talent) is the "lowest common denominator" appeal.
I know I'm going to be accused of being a snob, but honestly looking at the average football crowd (or even the players) you can't help thinking they're the same people that found Crazy Frog so funny...

At work, every morning after a game, I get to hear the "Ooh, he should have run around more and scored more goals" type comments. Do these people really think they know more about the game than the manager or players? (Actually, they might, but I like a good rant...)
Even worse is when they constantly make "jokes" that are at the expense of other teams or people associated with football. I can bearly name 5 teams, let alone know any names in the game, but they still expect me to find their quipes funny.
Fortunately my chosen sport is karate, so a good punch in the mouth usually shuts the football pansies up for a while :-)
Either that or ruffle their hair up a bit.

was funny when it was just the noise and a picture of an F1 car.
A couple of years later the monster was spawned :(
