My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

Kind of related....I was once in a shoe shop in Oxford, wanting to buy a pair of converse that i really really liked. I told the man my size, he cam back and said they had none because my feet were common.... I was offended
