My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

Wholeheartedly seconded.Especially when it's used as a placeholder for conversation. If it's a response to something genuinely funny, I might be able to understand, but reading 'lol wats up' and 'k i g2g lol' makes me want to punch an adorable kitten in the face.
