My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

I've only seen them being worn in two ways:1) with jogging bottoms, and said wearer has tucked them into the boots (not a good look on anyone, particularly if you're on the chubby side)
2) with a denim miniskirt. Fake tan, bleached blond hair required too. Like you said, most often seen on uni students.
I think they're ugly (the boots, not the people wearing them), and not practical. One girl complained her feet get wet when it rains. if I spent £140 on a pair of boots, I'd expect them to keep my feet nice and dry.

My girlfriend has someunofficial ones (about a tenner) and says they make fantastic slippers. We are slipper people. Slippers are good.
