My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

AftersIt comes 'after' your main meal but people call it 'pudding', 'sweet', or, God forbid, 'dessert'. Give me good old common afters anyday, preferably Artic Roll.

agree with calling it aftersI was going to post about calling it 'afters' but noticed yours. My old dear throws a wobbly at restaurants if I ask the waiter/waitress "what you got for afters?". I was bought up in East End of London and that is what we call it, like you said it comes after the main meal.
Give me bananas and custard for afters any day :)
