This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

Afters
It comes 'after' your main meal but people call it 'pudding', 'sweet', or, God forbid, 'dessert'. Give me good old common afters anyday, preferably Artic Roll.

agree with calling it afters
I was going to post about calling it 'afters' but noticed yours. My old dear throws a wobbly at restaurants if I ask the waiter/waitress "what you got for afters?". I was bought up in East End of London and that is what we call it, like you said it comes after the main meal.

Give me bananas and custard for afters any day :)

Artic Roll?
Is that what happens to a high-sided container lorry in strong winds?
