Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."
My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.
What stuff do you think is common?

I'm from Brum and I have a real bad accent I will freely admit. The funny thing is no one ever says anything about it unless they have the guarneteed safety of the Internet or on TV. I suppose calling people thick from behind a keyboard just shows that their intelligence is actually on a higher level than most other humans....I mean look at Steven Hawking his accent sounds terrible so he must be thick as 2 short planks.
