This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

Has anyone mentioned
the fannies who completely cover their houses in Christmas decorations?

This pair for example:
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1078489/Health-safety-killjoys-ban-couple-putting-famous-Christmas-display--50-000-lights.html

Elf & Safety have banned them from doing it this year on the grounds that they are morons who endanger public mental health, I would imagine.

"magical winter wonderland"

Where is the magic in a tacky plastic glowing santa?

Look closely and you'll spot Mario in a hot-air balloon. WTF?

And, I bet they ain't got jobs 'cause it takes all year to put those decorations up, it's a bleeding disgrace.

Can't agree more!
Our local councillor (you may have seen him on the news the last few christmases) puts on a grand display each year at christmas, with millions of lights, decorations and trees all over his large garden (think Clark Griswald but more tasteful). Everyone round here thinks he's a twat, but I personally think it is a great thing, people come from far and wide to see the lights (blocking the roads, hence the twat thing)and small kids love it, and he takes donations for local charities in a box outside. The nay-sayers are just bitter jealous scrooges in my opinion.

However.

In the next village there is a street which attempts to out-do him. Massive blow up santas and every argos decoration you can buy sprawled amongst the weeds. I wouldn't mind, but most of the kids in those houses have gone without their methadone to pay for those decorations.

I think it was more for winter and fun...
But did you see the "Enchanted Forest"? It's supposed to be a music and light show, taking you on a "journey". In reality it's flashy lights and tinny music such as the tunes from ET being played on some trees.

Trees, a beauty of nature we can not recreate. We shun it and cover them in strobe lights. Great idea...
