This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

I must be middle-class then...
Sky+, widescreen telly (that I know how to set up)... not a plasma yet though, 7.1 surround system. And I don't pee in the bath.

Actually that's quite an interesting topic for discussion. My house is ex-council but I bought it privately. I have a German saloon car on the driveway (not mentioning any names but it's got four rings on it and four wheel drive) that I've had since new in September 2006. But I have Sky (well, Sky+).

I don't have a dining room... well, I do, but it's my office, so I eat off my lap watching telly. But then I live on my own so does it matter?

I actually find social demographics quite interesting. You take Hairy Arsed Bob the Builder, working class to the core, give him a big lottery win... and he'll blow it all on a mansion and a string of sports cars. But he'll still be working class, he'll still enjoy going down the pub and letching at under-dressed intoxicated girls.

Or someone like me... 6 million on the lottery... I'd pay off the mortgage, buy a brand new car (A4 3 litre diesel quattro), buy a weekend car (Audi R8 with all the options) and stash the rest in a high interest savings account. And live off the interest.

Then periodically go down the pub and letch over under-dressed intoxicated girls.

Yes, when it comes down to it... we're all the same really!

And before anyone else says it...
because I just re-read that posting and if you read it too quickly "under-dressed" appears as "under-aged"...

"She told me she was 18, Your Honour..."
