My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

fair pointWhile I agree in principle with what you are saying, well, it's not really fair to say that everyone who stumbles through the language is at fault. I myself have problems with my speech that can be classed as an embarrasing front to the english language (not too mention my terrible spelling and grammar).
It's not my fault, I was hit hilariously hard in the face as a child and no amount of speech therapy will make me speak clearly or concisely. I'm not saying you're wrong, just saying that some of the time it really isn't the speakers fault.
I agree with you on Kelsey Grammar 100% though, his voice is liquid heaven.
