My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What's wrong with Fords?Vauxhalls are far worse- old Astras/Novas/Corsas always seem more chavvy than an old Focus. Maybe if you compared a modern Agila with a modded Mk3 Escort you could be right, but not comparing similar aged vehicles.
And the Transit is a very good van!
