This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

Long lost relatives!!!
My mum called our street a cul-de-sac. And as far as I remember, we weren't allowed to watch ITV, apart from Tiswas on a Saturday. Because my Dad instisted.
We weren't allowed soap operas (You only ever got them on ITV in those days) because my Mum said that Coronation Street would rot our brains... My two brothers were astonished to watch Magpie round their mate's house, although that was more to do with Susan Stranks's braless exploits.
Eating in the front room was just never even discussed, never mind done, and I only ever let the kids eat in front of the TV when The Simpsons were on.
Bit of a shame that My Dad expressed a desire to watch Coronation Street, as this signalled to my Mum that he was DEFINATELY having an affair! (He was!)
