This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

this happens more than you'd think ...
... in China, where i am right now. it shocked me the first time i was in this country (2006) and it hasnt ceased to amaze yet (currently been here for 2 months and counting, just 9 more til i can come home!!!) ... basically, they hock the contents of their lungs up wherever and whenever and with whoever they feel like. this is a generalisation but it goes for 90%+ of the population. it's disgusting. you can walk past a row of beautiful girls and they won't even have to cough up their insides, because you'll know in your head that they more than likely do it anyway, and thus are unattractive before you've even begun. very few exceptions. uni students and educated people in general here seem better.
