This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

What's in a name?
I come from a nice place, was brought up (reasonably) well, but seem to have stumbled far beyond the enemy lines and well into "common" territory a couple of times ...

Let me explain - my son was born in 1999, when the Twin Towers were standing and Katie Price was Katie Price and childless.

Katie Price becomes "Jordan" and then, in 2002 had a son with some second-rate footballer who she chose to name "Harvey".

Now what I thought was a nice name - Jordan Harvey - makes me look like some kind of psycho stalker and causes my son no end of grief in the playground.

In my defence, my parents chose to name me "Tracy" because they thought it was "unusual", so perhaps I'm just unconsciously continuing the cycle of abuse?

I had a brother in law called Tracy.
His name caused him some mither too and he was universally known by a nickname for years.

Woman on Facebook
mistook me for her ex, who I assume was a man ... unless I was actually "banging her rotten in the mid 80s".

As I was born in '81 and hadn't heard of a strap-on until WELL into the 90s I don't think it was me...

Does that mean
that there's some hope for me?

I am in the process of changing my name by Deed Poll (much cheaper/easier than you think) and will support him if and when he decides to follow suit!

Jordan
Jordan was Jordan way before 1999. Well, I say "way", it was about 1996. She was sufficiently famous, under the name "Jordan", to have done Playboy in 1997. Not that I'm her stalker or owt...
