My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

No, but...I was at school who was determined to pronounce it "Pewshow". Akshally, it was more like "Pewzhow" (a softer "sh", and to rhyme with "Joe")
