ComplainingI like writing letters of complaint to companies containing the words "premier league muppetry", if only to give the poor office workers a good laugh on an otherwise dull day. Have you ever complained? Did it work?

Don't think they responded to your original letter in a timely manner (also quite likely)?
Simply write to them again. This time, however, include this as the finishing sentence:
'If I do not receive a response from yourselves concerning this matter within (insert relevant period of time here), I shall contact my MP concerning this matter.'

I doubt it.The MP only has the job on a term-by-term basis and the Job centre staff probably have contracts Meaning they ae only sacked if they are caught red-handed murdering their manager.

It does.I was advised to do that by someone who works for the job centre (not the one I had the complaint about) and she said the managers at the place hate having to deal with MP's and will move heaven and earth to prevent it from happening.
I threatened to go to my MP: complaint was dealt with within 3-4 days. Someone else threatened the same thing: problem sorted all monies due to them paid in full.
