Depending on how you measure it
teh Catholics are the largest religion membership in the UK, yes still a minority, but something like 20-30%. Similar situation in the US where they are the largest denomination by membership. And yeah, like most christian churches, they aren't fans of teh gay or abortion.
I'm not a fan of religion, but sometimes I feel though, that at least some of the anti-catholic sentiment is good old religious predujidice. The Catholics weren't treated well post reformation for a very long time, anti-catholic laws staying on the books well into the 19th C.
Sure, protest the Pope (the current one seems more of a dick than usual), but don't think that the Catholic church has a monopoly on silly religious beliefs that cause harm. Take the time out to protest the next visit by the Dalai Lama, as well.

Protest the Pope
The clue is in the name. We're not protesting Catholicism (or at least I'm not, anyway).

The Pope is quite welcome to visit, but should be subject to the same laws as the rest of us, and most especially should not expect us to pick up the tab.

Is the Dalai Lama accused of covering up widespread systematic child abuse within his ranks? Not that I know of. If he was, I'd quite happily protest a state-sponsored visit by him, too.
