..umI confess I have never heard it used as a racial slur. Only ever heard it used in relation to a chinese takeaway.
I don't think my life has been particularly sheltered so I would guess I'm not alone on this one.

I wasn't aware it could be an insult either.I only found out because of Peep Show. Before then I'd have thought nothing of saying "Let's order a chinky.".
