but heat is not normally free. If you simmer something for 3 hours, your electric /gas / nuclear reactor bill will go up. On the other hand if you can get a camp fire going, QUIDS IN!

I haven't costed in the use of the kitchen lightbulb, or the wear on the kitchen door, or depreciated the capital value of the pan from use.
You get about 30 meals from one 3 hour simmer, more if you have a bigger pot. We are talking about 1p in gas per meal or les
