This is a question Hotel Splendido

Enzyme writes, "what about awful hotels, B&Bs, or friends' houses where you've had no choice but to stay the night?"

What, the place in Oxford that had the mattresses encased in plastic (crinkly noises all night), the place in Blackpool where the night manager would drum to the music on his ipod on the corridor walls as he did his rounds, or the place in Lancaster where the two single beds(!) collapsed through metal fatigue?

Add your crappy hotel experiences to our list.

Less Hostel and More Hostile
Last year, a couple of mates and myself went off to Budapest for a few days, now seeing as it was 3 lads we decided to go to a hostel and so stayed at the Marco Polo, in Buda, near the middle of town.

There were two things about this place that we liked:
1) It was dirt cheap
2) There was a 24 hour bar! Fantastic

So first night arrives and we decide not to venture too far from the hostel on the first night and go into the hostel bar and play some shithead (It's a card game for the curious).
The music was a bit poor so i decided to ask if i could bring a CD down and play that to which the helpful and friendly bar staff agree, to which I think 'how cool is this'.

Anyways, the night comes and goes and we go down the next day to retrieve my fab cd (they'd played it for the rest of the night).
When we asked for it the following conversation ensues:
Me: 'can I have my CD back please?'
Bar Staff: 'We don't have your CD'
Me: 'But you were playing it all last night!'
Bar Staff: 'I'll look in the back'
Takes about 2 seconds and comes out again 'We don't have you CD'
Well fair enough, my CD must have been that good they want to keep it, was only a writeable one so no big loss.

Fast forward a couple of nights and one of the boys disappears without his jacket (a story for another time) so i end up back in the hostel bar with said jacket, which I promply forget due to severe alcohol consumption.

The next night we traipse back down to the bar and as before the same conversation takes place, excpet this time without the looking in the back room, just a straight 'no'!

Gits

Still the beer was cheap and it was accessable so I'd go back...

Shithead
As I remember it
3 cards face down for each player
3 cards face up on the 3 face down cards
3 cards dealt to each player to be held like a poker hand.
player with the lowest card starts (usually a 3, 3 of hearts for preference)
then each player has to match or beat the number on the card just played, eg a 3 or above could be played on the 3 card.
After playing a card the player picks a card from the pack until they have all gone.
Once all the card from the hand are played then the player plays the 3 face up cards, then the 3 face down cards, when all cards are done the player is a the winner.
If the player cannot play a card higher of of equal value then they must pick up all cards that have been played so far.
Special card values:
2 - can be played on any card with no consequences
8 - Miss a turn
9 - card of a lower value must be played
10 - closes off the cards that have been played. They are then removed from the game and that player plays another card
Queen - change direction of play
Ace - The next player has to pick up all the cards in play unless they have an another ace, a 2 or a 10.
If a player gets 4 cards of the same value then these can also be used like the 10 card and close down the pack.
Hope that helps anyone wanting to try this excellent game!
It can also be sdapted to a drinking game!

Shithead!
We used to play this all the time in work on our breaks.

Used to piss off the managers something rotten as it inevitably extended our breaks 200%!

I had forgotten the rules as well, yay ^that^ man for reposting the rules.

Yeah, I learned about it in 6th form at school, only dusted it off recently! It;s a fantastic game of luck, skill and guts!
Well, that's how I'm going to market it one day!

Just
Booked our annual lads holiday to Budapest for this June. I like it there, great big open air club on the banks of the Danube (Bhuda Beach i think it's called).

And the lovely Marilyns club where ladies of questionable reputation are available and willing...

It's got a zoo and everything, what more could you want!

Budapest
TO be fair we went in February, was quiet in the week but weekend was great.
Yeah, I really had a good time there and would go back easily, especially now I know more about how to change money!
We really enjoyed Szoda, Soho (?) and the caledonia bar (quite brits on tour I know but they were showing the footy) and would recommend it to anyone!
