Bed bugsVancouver is supposedly the best city in the world - and it is great, but my first impressions were tainted by my experience of the Central Station Hostel...
I only wish I had searched for it on the internet before I went there - as other people's reviews are similarly bad.
My girlfriend and I had stayed there for one night and were making dinner in the kitchen. The other residents seemed very happy with the accommodation and were singing it's praises to us - but they were obviously homeless and therefore not as fussy as me, being a snobby backpacker with an overdraft.
I thought that we had been bitten by sand flies or something after our first night - but on our second night at about 12 o'clock we discovered some very full-up looking bed bugs in the bed and were forced to spend the rest of the night in the same bed.
Sorry about the snobby story because to be fair, we were travelling around the world so really are lucky as fuck!
Sydney is better than Vancouver though!

Euuuw" I have never stayed in this "hostel" but I would like to reiterate what several people here have said: DO NOT stay here! This is about the last neighborhood in Vancouver — no, make that Canada — that you want to stay in as a traveler! Run away. Zero stars. "

By what criteria? Wealth? Scenery? Commerce? Cooking? People?
I've never, ever, heard anyone, on the net or off it, even discus Vancouver......
Honestly - I'm interested where you got this info from.
Alnmouth, Northumberland was recently voted the "Best place, ever, in the History of the world."
By me.

Worlds most livable citiesVancouver is constantly cited (every time I see the results of one of these surveys, Vancouver and Melbourne are vying for top spot) as the 'Worlds Most Livable City'. The most popularly quoted survey is done, I think yearly, by the EIU which ranks cities on 40 indicators within the categories of stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.
Maybe these things are more memorable (or even just talked about more in the media) when the city you live in is highly ranked.
