This is a question Customers from Hell

The customer is always right. And yet, as 'listentomyopinion' writes, this is utter bollocks.

Tell us of the customers who were wrong, wrong, wrong but you still had to smile at (if only to take their money.)

Working as an IT Trainer, I get quite a few* calls routed to me from the Helpdesk** at work...
Recently, I had to sort out a call along the following lines:

"Kathy phoned. Someone used her computer yesterday and now Word has got symbols all over the page, can someone visit and remove them for her?"

For those of you not familiar with Microsoft's monumental pain-in-the-arse Word, someone had clicked the "Show formatting marks" button, which looks like this:

I phoned Kathy: first of all she bit my head off with a grumpy "I thought someone was supposed to be visiting me?".

After explaining that it was one mouse-click to remedy the "problem" I asked her to open Word.

"Right, have you got an icon at the top of your screen that looks like a backwards P with an I next to it?"

"Er..." she replied "I've got one that looks like an I with a backwards P next to it, is that the one?"

O_o

*quite a few fucking hundreds

We had one guy who paid for a BB install tech to call out
The problem he had was a proxy setting left in IE from Freeserve's installer software and IE giving "Access Denied" when trying to browse. It's a pish easy fix and can make us look good 'n' cleva to the average human too :)
I let the customer know it's just a 20 second fix but no, he wants an engineer to call out for it. He paid for the physical install of the equipment in his house, this isn't working. I told him it was and just to remove one tick from Internet Options.
He argued for 5 minutes with me on this. I did tell him repeatedly how to do it himself if he wished and there was no way I was going to send an engineer out to do that. I also told him we could've fixed it 6 times over by now and he could have already been browsing by now etc etc. It ended up going to a manager and he still wouldn't untick "Use a proxy server" himself. Some people just can't be helped.

what mong I am
I didn't know that.

But most massive works of my typing are done in e-mail anyway. Stuff I do at work mainly involves diagrams with huge pointy arrows and explaination boxes.

Top Tip remembered :-)
