Back when I was at university though, I had enormous pain in my jaw one morning - so bad I went as an emergency case to the uni dentist.
He took one look at the back of my mouth and said, "Ah, wisdom teeth. Impacted. They'll have to come out."
He then reached under the chair and came out with an enormous industrial (and entirely non-dental) pair of pliers, "I can do it now if you want..."

Anaesthetic?I went for a checkup some years ago with a loose tooth, I was fairly content to let nature take its course. So I recline in the chair and a Christopher Lee type prods said tooth and proclaims "hmm, you've got a loose tooth", at which point he proceeds in gripping it twixt thumb and forefinger and giving it a jolly good yank. Not much pain, but the sheer surprise did make gag on the blood trickling down my throat.
