I've just remembered another one!I spent another summer when I was a student working for an engineering company. They were subcontracted to make little motorized boxes which pulled your curtains open and closed for you at the touch of a button (because of course pulling the cord is, like, such a chore...).
Anyway, these devices contained a motor, a gearbox and a circuit board. Each gearbox had three metal cogs in it. I once spent several days pulling the middle cog out of all the gearboxes and replacing it with a plastic one, in order that the thing would wear out quicker.
Shoddy. Very shoddy.
