Majoringram tells us: I once had a wart on my hand and went to the doc to get it frozen. It hurt, lots. Instead of having to go back for more, I got my trusty rambo knife and cut the thing off. Three years later, and not even a scar!

Triple threat treatment
When you feel the tell-tale tingle:
1) Start using an aciclovir based cream such as Zovirax
2) Take lysine tablets
3) Wrap an ice cube in a tissue and hold it on the spot where you felt the tingle for a few minutes, a few times a day
Do this for a few days or until the cold sore is gone.
I get one or two cold sores a year, and doing this seems to reduce the severity and duration (probably mostly due to the aciclovir - the others are more placebos, really).
