I've always found taking the stairs to be the quicker option when just going up or down a single floor.

exactly.why hold up an entire lift.. to get out straight away.

I avoid lifts wherever possible.Anything under 5 floors I wouldn't even entertain using a lift unless I was with someone else who insisted or there was no other choice (which pisses me off intensely).
