In the early 2000s I went on a naked protest outside Scotland Yard

It was great fun, I got to meet some interesting people and look at their genitals and unlike my housemate, I didn't get myself arrested.

Stripped off all his clothes and ran flapping at a line of policemen
I was more circumspect and hung around at the back of a group of other naked protestors

In the circumstances it's probably as well
you'd been circumspected.

I don't see why the police were surprised by a naked man at a naked protest.

From my perspective it was kinda funny
Behind the line of coppers was the grey haired guy in a cap who was obviously in charge, and as my housemate ran towards them I saw him point and nod and then my housemate just disappeared behind a bunch of uniforms. I next saw him about twelve hours later when he got released from the cells.

to keep his nethers warm when they released him?

They gave him a kind of paper hooded overall thing to wear
which was just as well because I still had the bag with all his clothes in

I hear about that "naked rambler" bloke, and think "he's not doing any harm, the police should leave him alone".
I hear about a naked protest, and think "the police should break out the water cannon, and shove these idiots down the nearest set of stairs".

That naked rambler is a bloody fruitloop.
He gets released from prison, walks out of the gate bollock naked, then gets re-arrested. Rinse and repeat for 10 years.
I'm sorry but I don't see why normal law-abiding citizens need to be subjected to the sight of a ginger's knackers swinging in the breeze. He can GTF.
