This is a question Family codes and rituals

Freddy Woo writes, "as a child we used to have a 'whoever cuts doesn't choose the slice' rule with cake. It worked brilliantly, but it's left me completely anal about dividing up food - my wife just takes the piss as I ritually compare all the slice sizes."

What codes and rituals does your family have?

Pop
After dating my now wife for a while I had to meet the family.

'Would you like some pop' I was asked.

I froze.

'Pop' I said.

"yes, would you like some'

"What is 'POP' I exclaimed'.

"cola, orange juice or water, whatever you would like'.

I started laughing hysterically and exclaimed
'POP, you don't know what your getting with POP, why not say do you want some cola, or orange or water or milk, that would be far more appropriate"

This was the first time I had met them, why the hell they let me marry their daughter I have no idea.

It still amuses me that they ask me specifically what I want when I am with them and everyone else gets asked if they want some 'POP'.

Pop - you never know what your going to get, sheeesh.

Called POP
Called POP by my family also and my grandparents. I from Brum and a lot of people say it. I thought it only applied to fizzy drinks though (that's why it's called POP, I thought).

Regional?
I'm wondering if it's a Midlands Thing. Myself and Wife's family based in the Black Country.

I'm just glad I'm not alone on this :)

All normal here
"Pop" is either fizzy or squash/cordial. But for clarity in my house, I got the kids to call it "waterpop" if it wasn't fizzy, to avoid disappointment..

Waterpop
lol, I'll have to remember that one when with the wife's family tomorrow.

If you ever get to go to North Carolina
Or Alabama, every drink is 'Yawntsum Coke'.
Water, fizzy drinks, cordial, Pepsi, orange juice, everything, is Yawntsum Coke.
Or, if you have a drink already, it's Yawntsumore Coke.
