Another question that I cannot contribute to.
Due to the fact that I've avoided festivals like a mutant plague of zombies. Due, mainly, to the following reasons:
I hate people.
I hate loud noise/music.
I like sleep.
Nope, give me an old man pub, with a good landlord and some friends and I'm content.

Thank you
For your amazing, and invaluable, contribution to this weeks QOTW.
It will stay in my memory forever.

I have been to two festivals even though I agree with you.
Just get so drunk you don't care.

I would be careful
about avoiding festivals for those reasons.
I completely agree with your sentiments and your reasons for not going. I hate clubs, refuse to go out to one. The only place I'll be found drinking in public is a pub or restaurant.
But festivals are completely different! I can think of no nicer place to be when the weather is nice. You should give them a go before writing them off, it's not the same sort of 'too many people' as a club. Besides which, you can avoid the jams if you want. Second Glasto I went to, I only got out of my camping chair down to the crush for one band - Muse obv.

^ this
You could go to Glasto, not see a single band all weekend and have an awesome time talking to interesting people in a relaxed and friendly environment in the greenfield*.
* I am not a hippy.

In that case
I recommend Jazz festivals. Great music, good beer, and a really relaxed atmosphere. Well worth it.

I'm with Gareth
Any event where I have to use a portaloo that's been used by drugged up, drunk dicks is bound to be horrendous. The open air bit sounds great but here (Australia) they are usually in boiling hot weather, and really, I'd rather have a read, a snooze and use a clean bathroom.
Damn. I really do like the open air biz.
The problem with jazz festivals is that they play jazz.

The last festival I went to
Was held here. It's even better than it looks. An enormous marquee (with really great toilet facilities) and the best music I've ever heard.
