This is a question Best Films Ever

We love watching films and we're always looking for interesting things to watch - so tell us the best movie you've seen and why you enjoyed it.

Toy Story
How come no-one (as far as I can tell) has mentioned these yet??

Maybe there aren't many b3tans with kids of the right age. I admit that I wouldn't have gone to see either of these if we hadn't a daughter of the correct age, but I'm so glad I did.

There aren't that many films you can sit and watch as a family and all enjoy, but these you can. I still say that in these two films, Tom Hanks gives his best screen performances and he is supported by a strong cast and superb script. Also, these were made at the time when the technology was good, but no 'so good' that it didn't look like proper animation. TS2 if anything is even better than the original, again, if you've a daughter that has grown past the cuddly toy stage and abandoned her erstwhile bestest, inanimate buddy, that scene/song is guaranteed to make you cry for lost - or fading - innocence, and the incontrovertible evidence that you are getting old...

I find these two much better than the oh-so-clever-full-of-in-jokes-for-the-parents films like Shrek or Monsters Inc. They make the mistake of putting the animation and the jokes first and then hang them over a loose plot, like an ill-fitting seat cover. Toy Story starts with the story then adds action, songs and jokes where appropriate. Real class; re-watch them if you don't believe me.

So so true
I absolutely rank Toy Story 1 and 2 as a couple of my favourite films - and I think they'll stand the test of time too. I have watched the first one at least 6 times, probably more and it never ceases to give me two hours of perfect enjoyment!

Yup, I have a 6-year-old
And thus get to see at least some of this roughly weekly. And it's still good.

You! Are! A! Toyyyy!

Excellent acting. Still doesn't beat Forbidden Planet though...

I couldn't tell you how many times I've seen these films
We still love them my kids and I.

And whenever they're running or even on their bikes one of us will say, "Run! Run like the wind Bullseye!"

I want to see them again now.

I *love* those films!

I think I preferred the second one of the two - especially all the other film references.

And the angry eyes, gotta pack the angry eyes.

Ah, yes
So many classic lines!

How about: "You don't understand: I'm Mrs Nesbitt"

or "You saved our lives. We are eternally grateful"

or "Prospector!" "You're out of your box!"

So many classic film references
Like Jurassic Park when they're in the little car in the toyshop and they see Rex running behind them in the mirror - it says "Things may appear bigger"

And the Star Wars reference from Zurg when he tells Buzz he's his dad.

I've just checked the imdb listing for this and it comes up with a HUGE number of references, take a look here
www.imdb.com/title/tt0120363/movieconnections

*EDIT* There's going to be a Toy Story 3 in 2010!!!
Apparently Woody and his pals are going to be left in a Day Care Centre after Andy has gone off to college and Rex, Hamm and Mr Potato head are going off to find their long lost twin brothers.

I can't wait! I'll force my sons to go with me to see it!

Just one thing.
There's only one little detail that bothers me - speaking as a dyed-in-the-wool pedant. Answer me this:

How come Andy has an 'original' Woody doll - worthy of a place in a museum, when the original series (judging from the old b/w, Andy Pandy style puppets) was from the late 50s or early 60s? Also, it wouldn't have had a pull-chord with 'Reach for the sky', 'There's a snake in my boot' etc. would it? Propector, Jessie, Bullseye and Woody are obviously from the late 70s or more likely early 80s.

Huh? Huh?

Still. I forgive them, and Toy Story 3 - I can't wait. May have to visit the daughter specially...no, sod it, we'll go without her.
