"write down your dreams"is a perfectly sensible sort of homework, if you want to get the illiterate sprogs to learn to write about something.
OK, "about your dreams" might be a bit hippy-sounding, but it's as good a topic as "about your cat/dog/quadratic equations" or whatever.
