The impression I got was not that the forensic evidence had been disallowed, but that it was so stunningly tenuous that it wasn't reliable evidence. Like the low copy DNA evidence used to try and convict the Omagh bombers.

The other thing was that it appeared to be a superbly planned hit, given the almost total lack of evidence left behind.

Now, Barry George might be a total cunt, but being a total cunt and being an expert hitman are two quite different things. And a jury of his peers have looked at the evidence available and have concluded that there is not enough proof to be sure he was the man that pulled the trigger.

So we have to take it as read that that is the case. We don't have a perfect justice system, but if it is decided that it got it wrong, surely the person who has been locked up wrongly deserves compensation?

I daresay you didn't begrudge the Birmingham Four or the other "Provincial Town" "Number" people getting compensated for all the years they lost in prison once it was shown they had been stitched up by the police? They might have been total cunts as well.
