My pal inspects factories for a living, and I shall take his expert advice to the grave: "Never eat the meat pies". Tell us the best advice you've ever received.

That would be my first and last piece of advice. Doesn't matter what it is, just learn things.
Learn to read.
Learn to play the harmonica.
Learn to hang a door.
Learn to sail a boat.
Learn to speak Flemish.
I can't think of a single damn thing that I've ever learned that hasn't been useful under some more or less bizarre set of circumstances. And I've learned some pretty useless shit in my time. I even used the "conics" we learned in maths so I could cut an ellipse to run a vertical pipe through a sloping greenhouse roof last autumn. However obscure it is, one day it will be useful.
Never stop learning stuff.

And if you hadn't known how, you'd never have realised how useful it could be.

One of the lines, in hexidecimal, reads "John Smith (or whatever the technical director's name was) is a really cool guy."

... in geek-speak, is perhaps a little oxymoronic (or possibly simply ironic*), but today I learned this.
Some day I shall win a pub quiz, or something, as a result.
Maybe.

Joe Scaramanga taught me the above, and I will never forget it, and I will never stop resenting him slightly for doing so. That's a useful bit of my brain he's pissed on, which could be used for remembering something useful, like how to fight tigers or something.
Also, I think you mean "Cue" not "Que".

Since gaining access to teh internets a few years ago, I've become a bit of an e-book freak, and as a result, I've learned many new things, as well as how to improve many of my existing hobbies.
My PC is cleaner, my drawing has improved, I can cook more efficiently, I'm a lot more organised than I used to be, and generally, a lot happier.
I'm guessing this is because, I spend a lot of time at home (I work mainly weekends) and, instead of sticking on the telly when I get bored (something that I used to do a lot..) I just delve into my vast PDF collection, and read to my hearts content.
If I had a PDF reader for my phone, I'd be a happier man..

It was well worth it. But if you're planning on it, prepare for abuse from your spouse/house mates/neighbours for the several months at first, where your practice sounds like you're raping an accordion.
