Done door-to-door as well,and it is indeed soul-destroying, especially when you're making your way round a Hackney housing estate at 21:00 in the pouring rain with holes in your shoes.
I've worked in a call centre too but it was taking calls rather than making them; they did ask me to start cold-calling but I told them to get stuffed.
