This is a question IT Support

Our IT support guy has been in the job since 1979, and never misses an opportunity to pick up a mouse and say "Hello computer" into it, Star Trek-style. Tell us your tales from the IT support cupboard, either from within or without.

round the world support
I used to work for a large money-grabbing-motgage-brokering-fucking-us-all-with-125%-mortgages company.

The powers that be decided to outsource all IT support to their own subsidiary in India, and they provided support to all of the comapnies in the "family".

So in order to log a ticket, users dial 6000 on the phone, get put through to an operator in India who takes thier details, fails miserably to provide first line support, logs a ticket and send it tot eh on site technician, ho gets up, walks 20 feet and talsk to the user to find out the problem.

And this saves money?

The funny thing is, I love watching the US comedy "30 Rock" by NBC a member of the same "GE Family" as I used to work for, it makes me giggle to think that "Liz Lemon" has to dial 6000 to get an IT monkey.

IT Support
Haha yes - I used to work at the branch that rhymes with a large industrial town oop North. Used to drive me nuts having to dial India, when the bulk of the IT dept (at that time) were actually just a floor above us (3 hours for a replacement keyboard via ticket system compared to 5 mins nipping upstairs and asking the boys if they had a spare). Mind you, having overheard some of the calls my IT illiterate boss made, I think at times the phone support guys more than earned their money.

Examples: Can't change a font? Keep overtyping and erasing text in a document? Rather than ask around the IT literate staff in the immediate vicinity - phone IT support! "The Internet" (aka his browsing) is slow (bear in mind that there were several thousand users on the network and browsing was proxied via the US)? Phone IT support to "speed the Internet up"!

Fun fun.
