Willenium says: I had to bring some floppy disks into work which I had been saving for 10 years "in case I might need them". Tell us when your hoarding skills have come in useful (or not, as the case may be)

..and I finally lost my rag over it, after months of promises from her to do stuff about it. She was told in no uncertain terms, ditch the lot, or I go in and ditch the lot. There were tears, a lot of my saying it was tough shit, and eventually, it got done.
I ended up shredding a whole underbed drawer full of paperwork, as well as boxes of other stuff she'd kept under her bed. Masses of clothes, shoes and trinkets she just didn't wear/use/look at for so long, and the clothes were ones she wouldn't fit into now anyway. She didn't want to part with them on the offchance she might fit into them again. We stopped listening, bagged them up, and told her to get them out of the house. It was fucking amazing how much room we got back from getting rid of all her shite. I have absolutely no time for hoarding, not one little bit. My partner and I prefer to have a very minimalist existence, it's utterly pointless keeping things you're never going to use or not.
Now whenever she leaves rubbish about the place and doesn't put it in the bin, I upload it to Facebook and tag her in it, so all her friends can see what she leaves laying about. It's a shaming tactic, might sound mean, but it works. I love her to bits, but she drives me utterly INSANE with her hoarding/messiness.

why do you care what your housemate keeps under her bed? I mean, if it's just boxes of stuff and not, say, rat corpses, why make her get rid of it? Are you her mum? Or just a fucking horrible weirdo?

I can understand if it is actually 'rubbish', but forcing someone to get rid of actual property like clothes and shoes is ridiculous. I keep clothes that don't fit me- I lost 4st this year and gave a lot of my larger clothes to my mum. Throwing things away because you prefer to live in an empty brick box is your deal. I guess you have the money to buy things for one-off events. Do you chuck your winter coat away every Spring rather than store it?
I'd have told you to fuck off. It's none of your business what someone else decides is important to them.

She might have been messy but if you did indeed do what you said she should have reported you.

And I don't think she's driven you insane. I think that you're nothing more than a bullying prick. I hope that your housemate does go insane and stabs you repeatedly in your smug bullying face.
You prick.

Maybe you should lurk more and post a bit less, after all you wouldn't want to give the impression that you're a total prick, oh wait, too late.

Hell, I'm with you on this one! Filthy housemates suck. I once opened a bag of 'Clothes' at the top of my shared house stairs, as it had been sitting there for 2 weeks. It wasn't clothes. It was rubbish. We got mice in the end in that place, and I had a near nervous breakdown over those filthy hoarding fuckwits. I got sick of tidying up after them and putting their crap in the bin or back in their rooms. It slowly drives you insane. It really is NOT that hard to just put something in the bin. What they keep in their own room is their business, but once it starts to attract rodents or damage the place.. I'm going in there and removing it.

Always a bonus. I was living with awful student types who hadn't lived away from home before, it'd seem (Strangely, they had...) and after finally giving in and clearing out their rooms there were pizza boxes with crusts, etc, which had been there for weeks. Can't stand grimey housemates!

So long as her mess is kept to her room and doesn't stink it's nothing to do with you.
Is it your house and she is the lodger? If so then you have something of a say, if not then you can get to Falkirk.
And the uploading pictures to Facebook doesn't sound mean, it sounds like the work of a petty cunt.

... I reckon you're probably being a bit too harsh by forcing it, but my flatmate's guilt-trips when I got a bit lax really did actually help me to become a domesticated person.
I think people here are over-reacting, you know her, you're her mate, you know how far to go. I think I would have rebelled if someone went as far as you did on me, but a guilt trip at the right time (or the thought of getting some mega brownie points doing it _before_ they asked) would get me to proper scrub up. In fact, this thread alone is gonna get me to get the hoover out, as it's been a couple of weeks now.
Although, just so I fit in with trolling, if she was crying over it, you probably went too far, so you're a bitch and all that.

he tried talking to her- either chuck your stuff or I will, and then in the next paragraph describes how he chucked/shredded/destroyed her stuff for her. So I'm guessing she didn't have much chance to become domesticated. Or even a choice. Fair enough if it was actual garbage but it just sounds like he doesn't like clutter, and decided that her stuff had to go, regardless of how she felt about it.
