I dumped my girlfriend of two years after we returned from a holiday that she had paid for.

I learnt three important lessons from that experience:

1. Sometimes in life, you have to be a bastard, there's just no getting away from it.

2. Love isn't always enough to stay with someone.

3. Dumping people isn't much fun.
