I'm pretty sure that there's stuff in the Bible about not disobeying "just" laws and not getting rat-arsed- and he was pretty sure of it too.
Still went out at weekends and got pissed- even when underage.
Then when he recovered the next day he prayed for forgiveness. Which made it alright to go out the next weekend and do it all again, obviously.

When I mentioned that this wasn't exactly in the right spirit- praying for forgiveness surely means he'd try to stop himself doing it next week- he told me that I "wasn't Christian so I wouldn't understand". Tit.

Altho... I do believe that if hell exists, there will be a particularly painful place for 'em all. And that makes the blood boiling settle down to a controllable simmer.
