My wife is one of them.

They're very annoying, especially when thy find something and they go all "i'm the first person to touch this in 6000 years!"

Like personal glory is the point.

The point is, dear wife, I'm the only person to touch my nob in the last fortnight. Stop digging up mud and come home.

Though on the plus side
Archaeologists are easy to annoy.

You can tell them that Time Team is great and they'll instantly have a mental. Then tell them they just don't like it because Tony can work out in 3 days what it took them 3 years to learn.

Also, lots of women are into archaeology, and they find it really funny if you tell them they like it because it is basically cleaning, only with a small brush. Sexist lols.
