This is a question Irrational Hatred

People who say "less" when they mean "fewer" ought to be turned into soup, the soup fed to baboons and the baboons fired into an active volcano. What has you grinding your teeth with rage, and why?

"Can I get a …"
No. "Will you kindly get a [whatever] for me".

Also: it's not a train station, it's a railway station.

And stop doing things two times, do them twice. Thrice, if you will.

Yes, it is the railway station
But why, then, do we have bus stations?

And if bus station is valid, surely train station is too, as that's where that mode of transport stops?

Sorry

Yes I know bus / railway is inconsistent
But why should it be made consistent? Language is untidy.

It is
and it's lovely.

The confusion on non-English speakers' faces as you try to explain something like why flammable and inflammable are not opposites is brilliant.

Worse
Is the request "Can I grab a...".

When working as a barman, I would always answer the question "Can I grab a pint of lager?" with "Once you've asked for one, I've poured it for you and you've paid me for it, you may do whatever you wish with it".

I tend to think that anyone who uses the phrase "can I grab" should have their boo-tocks stapled together and force-fed prunes.

Do you read the Metro?
I see this texted in every now and then...
(, Thu 31 Mar 2011, 23:56, closed)
No. No, I don't.
But you worry me slightly. If it ever appears in the Daily Mail I'll, er, be very embarrassed or something.

Texed Is not a word.

Neither
is "texes" a plural for text messages.
Jeremy Kyle guests take note.

Dear Mr Morrison

It should be "Love Me Twice" actually

Love and kisses, B3ta

Nothing wrong with "Can I get a..." since they are using "can" in an alternative modal form for a request as opposed to a display of ability. :)
