Can I tell you the story of how I encountered a genuine angel yesterday?

I had to drive to Ikea in croydon to return some chairs. I only passed my driving test a few months ago so I still find it quite stressful.

Anyway I had been driving around central croydon for an hour, round the one way systems, all over the place, with no idea where i was going.

Eventually I stopped at a garage and got out, and looked at the A-Z trying to work out where I was. I was standing there, close to man-tears, when someone wandered up and in a thick Geordie accent asked if was OK. I replied that I didn't know where i was. I was annoyed that he was talking to me - he smelt of booze and I thought he should mind his own business.

He said "I'm not from round here, but why don't you follow me, like?"

I thought this was ridiculous but i was too polite to say no, so I jumped in my car and followed his van, which was waiting around the corner.

I followed him for about 5 minutes, and he turned a corner. I went around the corner and he had completely disappeared! And in his place were the tall, blue and yellow Ikea chimneys, beckoning like flatpack lighthouses.

And that is how I met a drunken geordie being from another world.
