My best mate has a photo of a truck which has crashed into a pole. The pole is the only thing stopping the truck from plunging down a mountainside, and in fact the only thing between the road and the sheer drop for miles in any direction.
His father was asleep in the back of the truck. The driver, unfortunately, was asleep in the front, but luckily he'd managed to doze off during the precise fraction of a second which meant they'd hit the pole and hence not plummet to a fiery death hundreds of feet below.
Since this was taken before my friend was conceived, he was saved from oblivion by a rusty metal pole.
