This is a question How nerdy are you?

This week Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, died. A whole generation of pasty dice-obsessed nerds owes him big time. Me included.

So, in his honour, how nerdy were you? Are you still sunlight-averse? What are the sad little things you do that nobody else understands?

As an example, a B3ta regular who shall remain nameless told us, "I spent an entire school summer holiday getting my BBC Model B computer to produce filthy stories from an extensive database of names, nouns, adjectives, stock phrases and deviant sexual practices. It revolutionised the porn magazine dirty letter writing industry for ever.

Revel in your own nerdiness.

One thought though
We consider, as does society as a whole, being able to quote Hitch-Hikers Guide or Star Wars verbatim as geeky and sad. Yet knowing who scored the winning goals in every FA cup final is fine.

I fail to see the difference.

Possibly...
...because there is the chance that the football fan may go outside from time to time?

spin
That's because football geeks can put a positive spin on it by claiming they have a "passion" for the "beautiful game" or some such nonsense, whereas this tends not to work with other nerdly pursuits - unless you're a drum geek, then you have a passion for percussion.

You make a good point

and, when I was in school, I thought drum geeks were hot.

it's because
quoting Hitch Hikers takes actual brain cells, after all you have to acutall read the book before you can quote from it.

Psychobabble
"Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care".

Considering the general public love football, being able to name FA Cup winners/scorers is seen as super-awesome.

Quoting books that are generally considered nerdy, is not, super-awesome.

I could do both
Not entirely sure what that makes me...

@CSJ
I guess they'd consider you mostly harmless.

Then not get the joke.
