it just doesn't have to be so gaudy, slutty, pink and in generally poor taste. If I were ever to get married - unlikely as I really don't want to - I would want something nice. Not something that cost a lot of money yet looks so fucking cheap and nasty.

Or that people think that their taste is so bad. The brides all seem to be teenagers I think that has a lot to do with it.

if the cameras weren't there. It's all an expectation thing I suppose, they grow up seeing all of their friends and siblings and cousins and whatnot get married in these pink poofy monstrousities and think that it's something to aspire to.
Poor fuckers.

I prefer plain things too. They like gaudy things.
And to them it DOES have to look like that or it's boring and 'cheap' (in their terms).
Leave them to it. It's an entirely different culture.

I love 'them' and 'us' conversations.
Everyone talks such sense when making generalisations ;)

Or that doesn't directly work to make my life better.

particularly if ones experience does nothing to dispell them.

It hasn't made me "universally hate" travellers or gypsies.
People make generalisations like that about women (or men) and get shot down. YOUR experience isn't the whole experience.

I said "fairly universally hated" meaning that most people would say they hate them, not that everyone hates them universally.
I am aware that my experience isn't the whole experience, nor is that of anyone else, but on the whole most people don't put a lot of thought into things and as such are bound to react based on their experience. It's natural.
Frankly, as with most things, I couldn't give a fuck as long as it doesn't affect me or those I hold dear personally.
