/OT is not in any way representative of b3ta in general, or more specifically, how b3ta was several years ago. You need to stop, take several deep breaths and remember that none of this is bloody real.

it's threads like this one where people get amusing.
if you piss on it, we'll end up with more reams of what's for lunch (nothing for me as have fancy client dinner tonight) and what people are doing at the weekend (urgh what am i not doing this weekend, my life is ridiculous at the moment).

this weekend.

if that's your nickname for "sex", you carry on using it, ok?

I was merely trying to find something you weren't doing this weekend in response to your post. My own bear-wrestling is another thing altogether.

this is nonetheless a public forum and everyone who contributes to it is entitled to an opinion as to what constitutes acceptable behaviour. I don't personally understand why people treat any corner of the internet as a place to abuse and offend people, and nor do I understand why such behaviour can be passed off as "just silly internet banter" by others. Whilst I accept that the majority rule is "meh, I can't be arsed with people like him, not worth getting worked up about, is it", Humpty or anyone else is entitled to express a contrary opinion.

and the virginal dullards who would previously have spent their lives as silent pen pushers and data administrators can now spunk all over the internet.

but you'd be foolish to assume just because people are cunts on the internet they are automatically dullards or idiots. And you'd be especially foolish to think you'll come close to winning a pissing contest.
( , Thu 27 Jan 2011, 10:46, Reply)

some of them are cunts, some of them aren't.

of course he does. But there's a difference between "expressing an opinion" and "complaining that your opinion isn't the way things are done"
firstly, it's pointless, because it won't work and you'll come out of it looking like a fool. It's like walking into a lion's enclosure and trying to persuade them to vegetarian. Secondly, the majority, including those who set up and run the website, don't want it to work, because bile is part of b3ta's ethos. And thirdly, why on earth waste your time getting upset about something that isn't real?
The fact that it's a public forum is irrelevant. No-one makes people post here. There is a corner of the internet for everyone. If people don't like the abuse here, you're in the wrong corner. Accept that rather than pointlessly try and change that corner to make it the fluffy place you want.

and will happily accept that attempting to change the established order is a futile gesture. On the most basic level, it seems like a shame that someone can get stick for objecting to trolling. However you're absolutely bloody right about the ethos of the website, and must concede that your argument has greater validity and weight than mine. Well played, sir.

by saying that there are limits, and unfortunately only an individual knows what the limits are. I've "done a humpty" a few times on /talk over the years but never to a troll, it's just provoking the response that the troll is after.
For instance, I come here much more than /talk now, not because I can't take the cuntiness, but because the discussions are better, IMO. And I thought you deserved a wanker like me.

Once again I appear to have allowed this subject matter to get my back up when I should know better
( , Thu 27 Jan 2011, 10:56, Reply)

I think I've not made myself clear. But actually complaining to the troll, in the thread they are trolling in, is pointless. And getting uspet about trolls is pointless.
( , Thu 27 Jan 2011, 11:02, Reply)

I've found that complaining about trolls to anyone is usually met by a barrage of "MTFU"s and arguments that I shouldn't take things so seriously. That's what annoys me.

Is an excellent mantra anywhere online, DF, not just here.

The funny thing is that I only started frequenting this site cos I liked the Image Challenges. I'm still not sure why I stuck around, or keep coming back. I seem irretrievably drawn to this place, like innocent passers-by caught in Beth Ditto's own personal gravitational pull
( , Thu 27 Jan 2011, 11:24, Reply)

but, as I said before, when /talk started it was very much like it is here now. Which is partly why I prefer it here.
