Sounds lovely
How good's your Croatian?
(, Tue 8 Mar 2011, 15:17, 1 reply, 15 years ago)
...non existent?
I always get a phrasebook before I go abroad anywhere though.

As you'd expect, they all speak excellent English out there
Just from my own experience, they do seem to really appreciate it if you can fumble out one or two phrases in Croatian, though.

Yeah, same as anywhere really
I'll almost certainly forget everything except 'please', 'thankyou' and 'Can I have a beer' though.

Except France
they fucking hate us whatever we do.
(, Tue 8 Mar 2011, 15:38, Reply)
I dunno
When we hitchhiked through France the people were immensely kind and helpful. One of them even fed us. Apparently they don't have vegetarians over there though

With you speaking in your yokel Norfolk,
they probably didn't realise you were English.
(, Tue 8 Mar 2011, 15:41, Reply)
This would be an excellent point
if I was from Norfolk

Details, details

They don't have vegetarians in Spain either
we saw a lovely little spectacle of two American veggies being fed a (free!) tapa that had ham in it. There was much horrified squealing.
The barman's reaction was great: he just shrugged and told them to eat round it.

Ha!
Gotta laugh at veggies now before I get home, innit
