no, it's not
but a yoghurt maker is just a thermos flask costing 4 times as much as a normal thermos flask. So, in conclusion, buy a thermos flask. Then put some live yoghurt and a load of milk in it. job done.

I thought
it needed some heat going into it. The one my mother has needs to be connected to the electricity.

put it on a radiator
or heat the stuff up first. or fill the flask with boiling water first and leave for an hour or so, then empty out and put the yoghurt and milk in. That's pretty much how i've seen it done.
