OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY !
I can almost hear TGB, Clendrix, Lusty and Wookie sighing right now "Oh dear, what kitchen gadget has Gonz lusted for now, and 'simply had to have'now?". Go on take a guess.

Alt: If you could make any flavour ice cream with a brand new ice cream maker, what flavour would you make? So far I've thought up.

- Peantbutter and Banana
- Lavender
- Red Bull Sorbay
- Beatroot Sorbay

is it a naked female sous-chef?
i would love peanut butter, caramel and chocolate ice cream.

(no, not a snickers bar ice cream, that's NOT THE SAME)

also in harry potter he gets a raspberry and peanut butter ice cream, that sounded well worth getting a scar on your forehead for, in my book.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 11:13, Reply)
Oh yes, that does sound good.

It's not your book it's JK Rowling's.

Just rum and.
One time when staying with us we went to the beach. There's a little ice cream shop there, and he decided to get a rum and raisin cornet. Only there were no raisins in it.

The look of abject disappointment on his face was priceless.

unless this is a joke that I don't understand, and then I don't want it.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 11:17, Reply)
no, it's not
but a yoghurt maker is just a thermos flask costing 4 times as much as a normal thermos flask. So, in conclusion, buy a thermos flask. Then put some live yoghurt and a load of milk in it. job done.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 11:19, Reply)
I thought
it needed some heat going into it. The one my mother has needs to be connected to the electricity.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 11:25, Reply)
put it on a radiator
or heat the stuff up first. or fill the flask with boiling water first and leave for an hour or so, then empty out and put the yoghurt and milk in. That's pretty much how i've seen it done.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:06, Reply)
No, you're safe
If somebody says "yoghurt rifle", then back away.

then add it to the ice cream as it's started to freeze.

also the best turkish restaurant in london, kazaan, does turkish delight or rose flavoured ice cream, which is lush.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 11:19, Reply)
I love turkish ice cream, they use some stuff in it that makes it really gloppy, almost like a soft jelly.
I also just bought
- Sugared Lavender Petals
- Sugared Rose Petals
- Bacon Pop Corn

my mum used to buy those sugared petals to put on cakes
and those little silver balls that crack your teeth. we were NEVER allowed sweets or chocolate as kids, so my brother and i used to raid the cooking cupboard instead. we got some almighty bollockings for that.

Not really
alcohol has a really low freezing point, so you'd just get a gloopy mess.

question is though
do I cook the ribs in coke in the oven, or simmer them in a pan on the hob. I'm leaning towards oven, but that's only because that's where my experience lies.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:52, Reply)
no, boil them first. much more tender.

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:54, Reply)
boil them in the coke for a few hours
then bbq yeah?
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:56, Reply)
You only need about half an hour in water for ribs
so coke should be the same.

I wonder what would happen if you used *spit* diet coke? it'd be much less likely to burn...
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:58, Reply)
I wouldn't want to risk it being shit
because of the sweeteners, so will go with regular coke.

I have basically zero experience with boiling meat. I'm thinking to avoid burning sugar that I'd be better off going with not quite boiling, and for longer. What do you reckon?
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:59, Reply)
a very gentle simmer should do it.
just keep checking it.

I boil ribs just in water and then make a sticky thai glaze for them for the bbq and it's absolutely lovely. But I'm liking your plan muchly, let me know how it goes?
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:02, Reply)
nice one.
if it's good I'll let the world know.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:04, Reply)
oh, fuck it, I didn't read that properly
I'd do it on the hob. The sugar will caramalize and burn and if you aren't stirring it all the time the pan will be ruined and it'll tase burnt, so the oven is not so good as you aren't stirring it all the time.

that was kind of what I was thinking

Just saying.

Wait, what? What? WHAT?

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:00, Reply)
I guess you could make a tempora batter with coke instead of sparkling water.
Oh, oh my, oh my goodness !
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:03, Reply)
that could be absolutely awesome
could be shit too, but I'm thinking use it for an apple fritter or something.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:06, Reply)
oh man, that does sound good.

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:22, Reply)
how about do both - have you a biggish pan that'll fit in the oven?
... the benefit being you can do a very long slow braise if you want.

Lemon and raspberry sorbet
Apple, ginger and gin sorbet.
And yoghurt ice cream for Charms. Not frozen yoghurt. She really likes yoghurt ice cream for some reason.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:38, Reply)
the ginger and gin sorbet sounds good
just subtract the apple
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:49, Reply)
I had a gin and tonic sorbet in some restaurant in London last year
Fucking splendid, it was. Also they made blue cheese ice cream, which is better than it sounds.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:54, Reply)
it'd have to be
because it sounds worse than being fucked up the gary by an anthropomorphised version of Ricky Gervais' "comedy"
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:55, Reply)
it kind of works. Kind of.
it was a bit LOLWAKI for me though. Trying to hard to be Blumenthal, I thought.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:58, Reply)
I had gin and tonic sorbet
a month back. We were already quite drunk (it was between courses as a palate cleanser) and I spent about three minutes wondering why it didn't taste like lemon.

Alt: shit and bollocks
Just been told my lovely ex is off to Kent for five days tomorrow (she had no intention of telling me), so I am rushing back from Lancaster on Saturday for sod fucking all.

Sorry to bore you all.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:49, Reply)
Ooh, lovely.
I like how Kent sounds like cunt if you say it in a posh accent.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:50, Reply)
Her family are extremely Kentish, for sure.

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:51, Reply)
Haha, kentish town.

I used to live there. Not the best part of North London in those days...

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:04, Reply)
Dad used to have a shop there in the 80s and 90s, Skate Attack.

On the road that goes to Parliament Hill Fields and up to Highgate?
On the left as you went up? If so I think I went there once or twice.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:17, Reply)
I think that's the one, I donno the name of the roads, but at the bottom of the steep heal just past that block of flats.

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:21, Reply)
Just past all the rug dealers? I think it's Highgate Road?

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:23, Reply)
That's a bit of a sod.
Anyone around for some beers in London then?

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:51, Reply)
does she behave like this to get a reaction out of you?

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:53, Reply)
She behaves like this to upset me.

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:10, Reply)
I'm telling you you're doing this wrong
Change the technique. Be nice with her even if you hate it. Buy her flowers or chocolates. When she does something like this again, call her half crying with a "But why? Haven't I been good to you?"

It's worth trying, as your method is not working.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:23, Reply)
I am not unpleasant to her.
I swear it. My mother says she cannot believe how patient and tolerant I am of the woman. She just flips out from time to time.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:25, Reply)
Well at least you wont be in Lancaster.

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:55, Reply)
You can always stop off in MK on the way back
we're going to have a bbq then watch Dr Who.
However you MUST REMAIN SILENT DURING Dr Who

You've got my number if you're at a loose end.

Thanks awfully.

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:10, Reply)

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:02, Reply)
Yeh', I guess I don't really want him in london if he doesn't have to be there eaither.

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:04, Reply)
Pre-booked train tickets. We're fighting our way back through hideous engineering works
taking us 5 hours instead of two, for shit all. Most glum.

Can't you change them?

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:07, Reply)

Just been told the scumbag boyfriend of a girl I want to do all sorts of nasty things too is off to Lancaster 'till saturday but he could have been away for longer so I could spend a few more days with her to convince her to leave him for good via the means of resonable simple statements and showing her the grass deffo is greener on the other side.

Sorry to bore you all.
(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:08, Reply)
Wow, that's funny - I'm off to Lancaster this weekend too!!!

(, Wed 20 Apr 2011, 13:09, Reply)
