I think mine might be Evanston, Illinois.
I fucking love it. It has sandy beach (but NOT - duh - salt water as it's on a lake), beautiful architecture (much of it's a conservation area), you can be in the countryside after a short drive or in Chicago in 15 minutes on the train. It's full of American student 'chicks' drinking heavily and it has more 2nd hand record shops than I have ever seen in one place.
